Legal Assistance

Pro-bono Legal Services for Ashoka Fellows is a collaboration between Ashoka's Integrity Team and Fellow Support Services.

Through our  extensive network of pro-bono partners like TrustLaw, Lex Mundi, the Association of Pro-bono Counsel, and Pro Publico, we are offering free legal counsel spanning over 125 countries and addressing a wide range of legal matters, such as:

- Legal support for your organization covering a myriad of issues ranging from work contracts to international expansion,

- Legislative advocacy efforts by getting professional legal support and public affairs expertise, and

- Protection measures from SLAPPs (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation – court cases where big corporations and governments strategically sue watchdogs to silence them).

If you need legal assistance, kindly connect with us at [email protected] or by filling out this short form. Our team will then reach out to arrange an introductory call before referring you to one of our dedicated pro bono partners. These partners are then able to offer support and free legal advice to fellow organizations.*

You can also check out these short videos developed for Ashoka Fellows, addressing some of the most common legal questions we receive from you, such as:

How do I form a new legal entity in a new country?

What are general issues to consider when setting up contracts and IP ownership?

What are the legal implications of common financing mechanisms?

How to do business online?

*It is important to note that, following professional licensing rules, Ashoka lawyers are unable to offer direct legal advice to Fellows. However, we are more than willing to guide you towards our pro bono partners who can assist you effectively. Please be aware that contentious or urgent issues may be more difficult for staff, but we are dedicated to finding the best possible legal solutions for you.

Research Support

We know many of you want to strengthen your research capabilities— both to make stronger evidence-based arguments for systems change, and to amplify your impact. We are pleased to inform you that the second round of applications are now open for research support from our pool of expert volunteer researchers from top universities around the world.

Plus, through Ashoka’s AI Lab’s guidance and our LinkedIn Volunteer Changemakers platform, we can help you utilize AI technologies for literature reviews and recruiting volunteer researchers for your specific needs.

First round of Research Support was launched in May 2025 and covered June 2025 - January 2026.

The second round was launched in February 2026. Applications are now closed and support will run for the next 6 months for eligible requests.

We intend to make this a permanent offering to Ashoka Fellows twice a year, depending on the funding situation.
